According to §135a para. 2 SGB V all SHI-physicians are obligated to introduce and to advance an internal quality management system since 01.01.2004.
KVWL has developed an independent quality management system KPQM which on the one hand broke down the approved standards of the industry and administration of small businesses, and on the other hand made the methods of the quality management system for physicians easier to realize.

KPQM affords that every practice can get evidence about quality management driven actions and the appropriate certification in a short time.

ÄZQ (the agency for quality in medicine) certifies ‘KPQM supports the SHI-physicians on their way to realize legal requirements. Furthermore it should bring reasonability of an internal quality management system for an adequate fulfillment of the remit as well as ensure a comprehensive demand for the medical fulfillment of his daily work. KPQM tries to balance between the constantly rising demands of the quality management with rising documentation and bureaucracy, and an acceptable effort for the SHI-physician.’

KPQM offers the opportunity for certification.

3cert GmbH tests the quality management system on consistency and adherence to conventions. The auditors of the 3cert GmbH are usually practice-based physicians or rather psychotherapists who demonstrate special knowledge in quality management. Thus the auditors can see the system as a quality manager as well as a healthcare professional and an entrepreneur of a small business.
The appointed auditors are usually colleagues.
